Shelves in wardrobes

Many people are confronted with shelves that drop down in the wardrobe.
The weight on the shelves causes the wall to curve. As a consequence the pins that support the shelves lose contact with the shelves.

You can overcome the problem by fixing the selves to the wall bu putting a screw in from the outside.

When you make a hole first the wall won't split.

Want birds in your garden?

To have birds in your garden means a lot of joy.

The early morning songs in spring, the tweeting of young birds and the content evening songs during summer and early autumn.

Birds eat unwanted insects, so you won't be bugged by them.

grass between your plants

When you've mowed the grass you can throw it away, use it on the compostheap or... spread it between the plants.

The grass prevents the ground from drying too fast on hot days, and it prevents weeds.

Take care that you don't throw roots between the plants... LOL!

incense against bugs

A few flies, some musquitos in the room... all inherited from a lovely warm summer's day.

Burn some incense and you won't see them in the area with the smells.

You can use the citronella incense which is made to repell insects, but my experience is that other kinds of incense works as well.

passport 2

Take your passport with you on holiday in something that's close to your body.

There are special small bags to hang around your neck like a pendant.

Some like a bag that hangs on the shoulder with a band crossing the torso, so the bag hangs under the armpit.

When you are at the customs and you want to take your passport, always tell them what you're going to do, in case someone feels you're making strange movements.

passport 1

Make a copy of your passport and have a family members and/or a trusted friend keep it at a safe place.

When your passpost is lost you can have the copy scanned and send to you by mail.

Take copies with you when you're going on holiday to countries where hotels want to keep your passport.
It's not allowed to hand over your passport to others.

In fact, it's not allowed in most countries to copy your passport, so make a black and white copy if you need one, not a coloured one.

Inform yourself about the laws and rules.

What to do in case of fire

When you smell something burning, don't assume the smell comes from outside.
Check... always check.

Check appliances, switches, bins, ashtrays (in case you use them), the kitchen, washing machine, alrmclocks etc etc.
Check each room.

In case you discover a fire, first think.

Some fires only need water, others should be treated with foam, or even sand.

Know how to deal with burning pans, a burning couch.

Never try to extinguish a fire which is not extinguished within moments.
Because the smoke is nasty, you'd better call the firebrigade and leave the building after you have warned everyone inside...if that's still possible.

Realise that smoke a disabling.
You should have a plan to leave your house before any fire starts, and you should practice it with family and friends.

Some people love sporting, but when they do it for a long time and reach the finish they suddenly stop.

Don't.

Take your time to cover the difference between full sporting and doing nothing.

Bicycking home after a sportive event or doing something else which moves the muscles prevents muscle ache.

They're listening

We're all used to camera's at all sorts of places, but until now we still felt the freedom to speak about any subject the way we wanted.

Not any more at certain places in Amsterdam.

New camera's are installed to prevent public problems like fighting: camera's that are able to register what people are saying.

So be prepared: they're listening.

small children and high temperatures

Small children sometimes seem to be unaffected by high temperatures, whereas in fact they can have many problems dealing with it.

Don't put them in the sun, but at a place in the shadow or at a cool place, but not in the draft.

Dress them lightly, and put a towel or other absorbing fabric over anything plastic.

Give them plenty to drink.

These are just the three basic advices.

Beating the heatwave

Dealing with high summertemperatures can be very tough, but act like those who live in tropical countries.

Sleep well, wake up early, do your things, take a nap in the afternoon and get more work done when the sun has gone under.
