The cold and the paper

It could have been a title of a short story: the cold and the paper.
But it's just a tip so you can keep warm on your motor or bicycle.

It's a very old tip, my grandfather used it, my dad, and even I.

When it's very cold and you need to go outside through that freezing winterstorm you should dress properly.

Good underwear, layers of clothes, like a T-shirt, sweater and cardigan and a coat.

But you can protect yourself even better with a paper.

Put it between cardigan and coat, all over the front area, and then close the coat.

It works perfect!

A costume?

Men's wear. gentlemen's wear.
Oh my dear!

Most men hate shopping for clothes and fitting jackets and trousers.

Especially when they need a suit it costs a lot of energy to get them going, and when they've finally got the suit they treat it almost like their socks.
In case you've got a guy that uses his trousers on bicycles too, you can deal with a good tip.

One jacket, two of the same trousers.

When they've spilled their coffee, sat on a dirty bench outside or just went through the whole fabric, you won't need to go shopping and buy a new jacket too. Jst get the trousers from upstairs. That's all.

This tip is only usefull for guys who are not eagerly growing a beerbelly.

Boots

Boots can have a longer life when you use inlays under your feet in the boots.
Preferably use leather ones or the soft and warm sheepskin.

When they're large enough you can make a pocket on the inside where you can keep some money.

Smooth zipper

A zipper can be a real pain, but I'm going to teach you a trick so you won't have stubborn zippers anymore.

Just rub the teeth of the zipper with a bar of soap or a candle.

When you use soap you need to reapply after each wash.

No mothballs?

I hate the smell of mothballs.

My gram had far better silution against bugs.

Roll a paper and put it in the back of the wardrobe at a place where it can't touch the clothes.

Take a small net and fill it with soap leftovers.
Put the net in the wardrobe. It makes the clothes smell nice and prevent bugs.

shoes and sweaty feet

Shoes can cause sweaty feet, so be careful that you buy natural materials.

Also wear cotton socks and use at least 2 pairs od shoes to alternate them.
The shoes you're not wearing should be kept at a place where they can "breathe" and can lose moist.

remove candle wax

Candle wax can be removed from clothes when you keep it alone to get cold first.
Then put the fabric in the freezer.
After that you can peel it off.

Any rests can go away by using toiletpaper between the fabric and a hot iron.

Be aware that not all fabric can deal with ironing.

Putting winterclothes away

When you want to put your winterclothes away, always save one thick cardigan (at least) for the holidays.

Only put clean clothes away, otherwise insects will be attracted. As you know moths eat your clothes when they're not clean.

Take care that the clothes are dry, because they're otherwise a great livingplace for fungi.

check the buttons

Before wearing blouses, coats and other clothes with buttons: check the buttons first.

Some are sown with just three small threats and that's not enough.

Buttons on coats need to have space between the fabric and the button to allow the other side of the coat to be buttoned down.
But they need to be well attached.

stockings and pantyhouses

A tip for ladies who wear stockings or pantyhoses.

You can make them a bit stronger to resist rupture by putting them in the freezer before wearing them.
A night will do the trick.

When you're frugal you should hang them outside during the winter. :)

laundry refreshener

Some detergents wash well, but they leave a strange smell in the laundry.

Ofcourse you can use expensive laundry softener, but you can also use in the last water: lemon, vinegar, or a small drop of mouth refreshener.

Thank you all who send us their comments, greetings and mails.
We've decided that we don't want to invest our energy in proving what should speak for itself.
In case you need to get rid of anger or energy, there's a ball shootinggame at the bottom of the site. LOL!

Thank you new subscribers!!

Right now I'm dropping partly from a list and partly from the inbox.
I want to have a droppinglist, so let me know when you want to be on it.

raincoat

Some shops sell about everything and there you'll have to be to find a very cheap raincoat.
It's made of thin plastic and you need to be very careful when you put it on.
But it keeps you dry for one time use.

Why I mention it?

It's a very thin, small package and you can take it with you in your coatpocket or handbag.

For emergencies. Because it's not very environment friendly.

Knitting patterns

No need to live without fingerless gloves.
In fact, they're fashion and I've found not only ready made ones online, but also knitting patterns for all who dare to have a go with the knitting needles and some wool.

Valeries Galery has a great variety of ready home made knitwear, including fingerless gloves, and she has knitting patterns for a very reasonable prize.

Go and have a look and tell me if you like her knitwear as much as I do.

drying shoes

Some people think that drying wet shoes can best be done by putting them on the heating.

Never ever do that!

The glue will melt, leather will become hard and inflexible, and the inside will probably curl up.

Put your shoes on the floor about a meter from the heating and put a bowl of yesterday's newspaper in it when the shoes have plenty of time to dry, and otherwise leave the newspaper out.

It might take a bit longer than putting them on the heating, but your shoes will last longer.

Spray them with anti-rain when they're dry.

zipper of coat not closing

When the zipper of your coat is not closing you can try to make it work by running a candle over the zipper. It should make opening and closing a smoother activity.

When you can't make it work, and you've got no bottons to make it work, put an old cardigan over the coat.

Wear on your body an opened paper that covers the front of your upper body.
The paper is a good and very old fashioned isolation.

The cardigan should keep your coat closed. You can also try tape to close your coat. Especially sparadrap/hechtpleister/leukoplast works great, but be careful, the adhesive leaves spots which are not easy to remove.
