Clean glass

A few times a year I clean all the glass in the house.

I put it all: vases, marbles, statues of glass, etc. etc. in the bath and put a few washing machine tablets between them.

We don't have a washing mashine, but I collect the tablets which are given for free in the shops.

I oour water over it all and stir the water when the tablets are dissolved.
I leave it there for about an hour.

Then let the water out.
Spray it with the shower with clean water and let it dry.

Additional effect: bath is clean without rubbing.
Not so nice: effect on environment.

Shower gel

With men in the house, their smells are in the house.
I'm not talking about feet. but about shower gel.

That stuff in blue or black bottles smells awful!
Especially when they use deodorant too.

A while ago I took the emtpy bottle, cleaned it and had a go at a home recipe for shower gel.

Take the cheapest shampoo you can get that smells ok or is just a bit not nice.
Add just a bit of water and about 1,5 tablespoon of salt.
Mix very well.
Add a few drops of sesame oil.
Mix.

Sniff.

Smell ok? In the men's bottle.
Smell not OK? Add a bit of your favorite essential oil.

Put it at the right place.

And just react like you always do...each day a little less, unless they think you've given up.

Clean a bottle

Are you one of those people who use waterbottles over and over again until they break or get too dirty to use anymore?

How do you clean your bottles?
With water and soap every evening?

Or do you want your bottles hygienic clean?

In that case fill them in the evening with vinegar and water and in the morning throw that out and rinse the bottle well with plain water.

You can clean the caps by putting them in s small bowl with vinegar and water.

Pink eye

Pink eye is an inflammation of the eye due to either a virus or bacteria or allergy.

Often warm compresses ease the itching and pain. You can apply them a couple of times a day.

When the pink eye is due to an allergy, warm teabags might be of help.
A nasty infection is better counteracted by either boric acid, calendula or chamomile.
Take a ball of cotton wool, drange it with the liquid and clean the eye before using a compress.

Some people like the use of honey or salt water better, but be carefull...they burn.

Be careful. Pink eye is highly contageous.
One of the causes cvan be herpes simplex or herpes zoster, so stay away from small children. Babies can die from it.

Cleaning your plastic bathroom mug

Some people have a plastic mug in the bathroom for a quick drink or sip to clean the teeth.

When you keep forgetting to take it with you downstairs to wash it up after dinner, just take a desinfectant cleaning liquid and pour something of it in it.
Let the bottom soak for 15 minutes and then add water and let it stay in it for the night.

Artificial teeth cleaning tablets work well too.

Against fruitflies

Fruitflies are a nuisance and it's best to get rid of them as soon as possible.

Clean the area where they come with vinegar, and put a cup with water and vinegar at the place they love to come.

They hate that!

hygiene in your fridge: defrosting meat.

Some people have the habit to defrost meat in the fridge.
It's ofcourse better than in normal air, but I for myself like meat fresh. When I want to freeze something I cut the meat in pieces, so I can put it in the pan and bake it without a long defrosting time in which I give bacteria the time of their life.

Packages with fresh meat and defrosting meat can leak.
So always put them in a box or on a plate at the bottom of the fridge, so no leaked liquid can infect the other items.

Hygiene at trips

When you're going on a trip it's wise to slide a little sample bottle with desinfectant handgel in your pocket.

Not only does it come in handy when your hands need a clean, but it's also of help when you've hurt yourself.
Even when you don't have a plaster available you can care for the wound.
Just put the gel on it and use it as glue for part of a paper handkerchief or something else.

Clean drawers

My gram did it, I do it, you should do it.

Put paper in drawers.

Especially in the drawers in the kitchen.

When breadcrumps and other stuff falls in, it collects at the bottom of the drawer and espcially in the summer it can be a source for mold and animals.

When you have paper at the bottom of the drawer, you can lift the items out, turn around the drawer and get rid of the paper and the dirt, clean the drawer without any problem with a cloth with vinegar, put new paper in and put the items in it again.

You'll have your drawers cleaned within a moment, without elbowgrease.

stinking wastebin? No more!

Does your wastebin stink like someone soaked old bedwear in the swamp and saved it for over 10 years?

You need help!

First clean the bin and desinfect it.
Or simply buy a new one.

Then ask a catowner for a few handfulls of pellets for the litterbox of his/her cat. Or buy a bag yourself.

Put two or three handfulls in a panty or an old sock and put it at the bottom of the bin, before you place the bag in it.

You can also use it in the fridge and at other places that create smells, but I think it's better when you try to find out where the smell comes from.

You can keep your wastebin from smelling by throwing the organic material on a compostheap or in a compostbin.

When opening cans

Cans can be stored for a long time.

When you open a can, first clean the outside of the lid/the part you're going to open.

You'll never know what has crawled on those cans.
